Freudenthal Duality and Black Holes : from Groups of Type E7 to Pre-Homogeneous Spaces

Abstract

Freudenthal duality can be defined as an anti-involutive, non-linear map acting on symplectic-covariant objects (such as the black hole electric and magnetic charges), within four-dimensional Maxwell-Einstein theories coupled to a non-linear sigma model of scalar fields. After a general introduction on some aspects of extended supergravity theories, I will consider their U-duality groups "of type E7" and the corresponding notion of Freudenthal duality, also in relation to the attractor mechanism of extremal (asymptotically flat) black holes. I will elucidate and comment on the relation between the Hessian of the black hole entropy and the rigid pseudo-special Kaehler metric of the pre-homogeneous spaces associated to the U-orbits of fluxes.
