Merger of binary neutron stars: Latest progress in Kyoto

Abstract

The merger of binary neutron stars is among the most promising gravitational wave sources for km-size laser-interferometers, a plausible candidate for short-hard gamma-ray bursts, and possible site for r-process nucleosynthesis. To explore these aspects of the merger, numerical-relativity simulations are required. We have been performing a wide variety of numerical-relativity simulations including magnetohydrodynamics simulations and neutrino-radiation transfer simulations. I will report our latest activities for these simulations.
