Clusters of Galaxies with Extended f(\chi) Gravity

Abstract

In this work we show the results of the perturbation analysis of the gravitational metric theory of gravity f(\chi)=\chi^{3/2}, proposed by Bernal et al. (2011), for a static, spherically symmetric space-time. The dynamical observations can be synthesised in terms of the metric coefficients of the metric theory of gravity, in perturbations of v/c. As shown by Mendoza et al. (2013), the second order of approximation, O(2), is capable to account for the baryonic Tully-Fisher relation in galaxies and the details of gravitational lensing in groups and clusters of galaxies. In the present work (Bernal et al. 2015), we show that the fourth order of perturbation, O(4), of the theory accounts for the mass from the observations of 12 Chandra X-ray clusters of galaxies, without the need of dark matter. To compare the theory with such observational data, the point-mass gravitational potential is generalised to a mass distribution. In this sense, we calculate the first relativistic correction of the theory, which is relevant at the outer regions of clusters of galaxies, in order to reproduce the observations.
