Vacuum polarization around Lifshitz black holes

Abstract

The vacuum polarization of a scalar field around a Lifshitz black hole geometry is studied using a WKB analytic expansion and a point-splitting regularization. We follow the standard approach, which consists in regularizing the divergences of the Green function using a point-splitting method, subtracting them from the initial expression and finally taking the coincidence limit, thus obtaining a renormalized result. The final expression is naturally expressed in terms of generalized zeta functions. We demonstrate some methods to numerically compute these quantities which are then used to evaluate the vacuum polarization for a massless scalar field in a particular choice of Lifshitz spacetime.
