Radiation by an Unruh-DeWitt Detector in Oscillatory Motion

Abstract

We consider an Unruh-DeWitt detector coupled with a massless scalar quantum field in (3+1) dimensional Minkowski space, as a toy model for charged particles or ions moving in electromagnetic fields. Our numerical result shows that the Unruh radiation emitted by an Unruh-DeWitt detector in oscillatory motion is suppressed by the interference with vacuum fluctuations of the field, even in such non-equilibrium conditions.
