MEANING OF THE STRESS TENSOR RENORMALIZATION OF A SPHERICALLY SYMMETRIC MASSIVE FIELD ON A QUANTUM GRAVITATIONAL BACKGROUND.

Abstract

As a toy model for backreaction computations on a quantum black hole background we consider a spherically symmetric massive field. In order to study the semi-classical corrections of the gravitational background induced by a scalar field that propagates on a quantum black hole, we compute the effective action that yields the expectation value of the stress energy tensor for the quantum matter field on the quantum black hole background. We show that the effective action and the corresponding expectation values are finite and that renormalization is only required for eliminating the dependence on the Planck scale properties of the gravitational states.
