The Gravity Apple Tree, a Map on Gravitation Theories

Abstract

After one hundred years of Albert Einstein’s theory of General Relativity, published in 1916, gravitation is still one of the biggest mysteries of nature. New dark phenomena have driven scientists to explore a variety of new roads, in addition of those explored during the 20th century. In a ultraspecialized community, we find ourselves before a confussing plurality of theories available. In order to give a synthetic view and context I present a genealogical tree and conceptual map with a time reference system which includes: main theories developed between 1905 and 1913, reference to main authors and original publications, dark matter and dark energy models, main principles followed by theoretical branches, a time reference coordinate system marked by relevant observations and experiments. All this represented in a figurative tree, well suited for communicational and educational purposes.
