The simplified view of blazars: explaining blazar properties over the whole electromagnetic spectrum

Abstract

We have recently proposed the "blazar simplified view", that is a paradigm that explains the diverse statistical properties of blazars adopting minimal assumptions on blazars' physical and geometrical properties. I will describe this view, present the principles on which it is built, and then concentrate on its remarkable success in explaining the properties of blazars detected in radio, X-ray, and gamma-ray surveys, and the gamma-ray background above 10 GeV. Finally, I will illustrate its predictions for the very high energy gamma-ray band, relevant for CTA.
