High-order half-integral post-Newtonian coefficients in the redshift factor of black-hole binaries on circular orbits |
Abstract |
Direct comparison of expressions obtained in the post-Newtonian approximation scheme and in the self-force approach, constructed specifically for relativistic particles in the extreme mass-ratio limit, enables preliminary confirmation of the foundations of both computational methods. Recently, the redshift factor of a black-hole binary moving on exactly circular orbits has been determined by means of self-force techniques to very high accuracy, in the form of a post-Newtonian (PN) expansion. It was shown, interestingly, to contain half-integral PN terms although the dynamics is strictly conservative. Those terms, first arising at the 5.5PN order, actually originate from the so-called "tail-of-tail" integrals. Using the general post-Newtonian iterative algorithm in harmonic coordinates, we shall discuss their nature and show how to compute them at the next-to-next-to-leading order. |
