Abstract

The quark meson coupling model is a theory of nuclear structure which stars with the self-consistent change of the structure of a hadron immersed in the strong scalar mean field associated with dense nuclear matter. For finite nuclei the energy density functional derived from the model has proven very successful in describing nuclear properties across the periodic table and especially for superheavy nuclei. This same theory has also been applied in its original relativistic form to produce an EoS for dense matter. Even with the inclusion of hyperons the model naturally produces neutron stars with a maximum mass around two solar masses. As well as presenting the latest results from the model we also explore the consequences for neutron stars of a recent proposal involving dark matter.
