Abstract |
Following the detection of the neutron star merger GW170817, a search for high-energy neutrinos was performed using data from the Antares, Pierre Auger and IceCube observatories. No coincident events were detected, which allows us to constrain the most optimistic models. In a more model-independent approach, IceCube can constrain the neutrino flux of a population of transients with durations up to 100s. Several models predict neutrino emission from neutron star mergers on this time scale. The derived limits are independent of gravitational wave detections, and rely on 5 years of IceCube data. We find that such short-lived transients can only produce a small fraction of the detected astrophysical neutrino flux. |
