Title

Searching for axion-like particles with the Global Network of Optical Magnetometers for Exotic physics (GNOME)
Coauthors Hector Masia Roig for the GNOME collaboration.

Abstract

GNOME is a novel experimental scheme for investigating spin couplings between nuclei and exotic fields generated by astrophysical sources. It consists of a network of globally distributed, ultrasensitive atomic magnetometers. The sensors are in a magnetically shielded environment to study global phenomena that couple to spins, such as topological defects in an axion-like field. The gradient of the exotic field is expected to interact with the nucleon or electron spins. Information about the source and properties of these particles can be extracted from the signal's relative magnitudes and timings measured by the different sensors. The analysis presented here is performed on two monthlong data-taking campaigns. The discussion is focused on time-domain methods, and our interest lies in the identification of correlated transient events. The accessible parameter space of axion-like particles is assessed from the study.
