Title

SNR View on SN Ia Progenitors
Coauthors

Abstract

I will review recent observational results of supernova remnants (SNRs), focusing on a view point of probing progenitors of SNe Ia. Suzaku successfully detected faint K-alpha X-ray lines from Mn, Cr, and Ni from several SNRs. The Mn/Cr mass ratios were used to derive a metallicity of the progenitor star, as determined by the neutron excess of the white dwarf material before thermonuclear runaway. In addition, high Mn/Fe and Ni/Fe ratios measured for the SNR 3C397 indicates a degree of neutronization in the SN ejecta that can only be achieved by electron capture in the dense core of exploding white dwarf with a near-Chandrasekhar mass, favoring the single-degenerate scenario. On the other hand, high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy of Kepler's SNR with XMM-Newton's reflection grating spectrometer revealed a significant amount of N-rich, CNO-processed circumstellar medium, which is also consistent with the single-degenerate scenario. A recent RGS's high-resolution spectroscopy of southeastern ejecta knots in Tycho's SNR will be also presented. Finally, I will talk about exciting future prospects with the micro-calorimeter onboard the X-ray astronomy recovery mission (XARM).
