Gravitational Spin-Hall Effect of Light | |||||
Coauthors | ||||||||
Abstract |
Polarization and orbital momentum of a light wave propagating in inhomogeneous media become strongly coupled to each other. A result of such interaction is the spin-Hall effect of light --- the transverse polarization-dependent displacement of a light wave trajectory. On the other side, a gravitational field can be viewed as a moving bi-anisotropic dielectric medium. Such a medium affects dynamical properties of light --- its polarization and spatial degrees of freedom. We describe this phenomenon by taking into account coupling between these degrees of freedom, resulting in the gravitational spin-Hall effect of light. Due to this effect, the gravitational field splits a multicomponent beam of light and creates a polarized gravitational rainbow. |
