Title

21-cm Signal of Neutral Hydrogen from High Cosmological Redshifts
Coauthors

Abstract

The first billion years of cosmic history hold the key to unlocking many of the remaining mysteries in astronomy, cosmology and physics. Observational evidence from that epoch is poor resulting in large uncertainty in astrophysical processes. Fortunately, the effort to map the Epochs of Reionization and Cosmic Dawn is ongoing with the 21-cm line of neutral hydrogen being a promising probe of the epoch. However, recent discovery of the anomalously bright Cosmic Dawn signal by EDGES is very controversial and rises more questions than provides answers. In this talk I will, first, review effects of high-redshift astrophysical processes on the sky-averaged shape of the 21-cm signal and its power spectrum. I will then comment on the EDGES result. Finally, I will mention the experimental effort to verify this signal and possible theoretical explanations.
