Title |
The escape fraction of ionizing radiation - implications for reionization | |||||
Coauthors | ||||||||
Abstract |
Assuming that GRB locations are representative of those to the locations of massive stars, we find that the large majority of such sight-lines to such stars in distant galaxies are opaque to ionizing Lyman continuum radiation. The implied escape fraction is less than 1%. This has potentially serious implications for the hypothesis that the reionization of the intergalactic medium was primarily brought about by far UV radiation from massive stars. |
