Title

Supermassive black hole as a source of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays
Coauthors

Abstract

Origin and production mechanism of ultra-high-energy particles with detected energies above EeV up to ZeV in cosmic rays still remain unsolved. It is generally accepted that these are charged particles produced in extragalactic sources. I will show that ultra-high energy protons can be produced within a neutron beta-decay in the dynamical environment and vicinity of supermassive black holes (SMBH) located at the centers of galaxies by extracting out the energy of the central SMBH. Similar mechanism may lead to the production of high-energy neutrinos. Magnetic fields which are usually present in the vicinity of black holes play a role of catalyzing element that increases the efficiency of the energy extraction. From the other hand synchrotron loses and back-reaction of individual charged particles put constraints on the mass of SMBH, magnetic field and propagation distance of cosmic rays.
