Title

Conformally Extended Holst Action and the Gauge Nature of the Immirz Parameter in Loop Quantum Gravity
Coauthors

Abstract

Recently, conformal geometry has been suggested to provide an extended symmetry allowing a reformulated Immirzi parameter necessary for loop quantization to behave like an arbitrary group parameter. Exploring the role of conformal symmetry in General Relativity, we propose a new second order action integral formulation of GR by extending the Holst action used in Loop Quantum Gravity, endowing the spacetime with equivalent classes of conformally related metric tensors. With the new realization of the Immirzi parameter as a relative mapping between different conformal frames, this approach promises a sound solution of the Immirzi ambiguity in LQG by unveiling the hidden gauge nature of the problem. It also has advantages when compared with the standard Ashtekar approach since, even though using a complex connection by gauge fixing the Immirzi parameter, we were able to recover real GR.
