Talk Title

Mass ejection from neutron star mergers

Abstract

Neutron star mergers launch various kinds of outflows that produce observable electromagnetic counterparts including gamma-ray bursts, kilonova/macronova, and radio flare. In addition, the neutron-rich outflow is an ideal site for r-process nucleosynthesis. In this talk, I will discuss about the various kinds of outflows expected from merger simulations and the interpretation of the electromagnetic counterparts to GW170817. I also discuss the rate and ejecta derived based on GW170817 in the context of the origin of r-process elements in the Galaxy.
