Chiral Symmetry and Unruh effect

Abstract

In this work we study the Chiral Phase Transition as observed by an accelerating observer taking into account the Unruh effect. We use Chiral Perturbation Theory in a certain large N limit as an effective description of low-energy QCD and the Thermalization Theorem to compute the relevant partition function for the accelerating observer. As a result we obtain that the chiral symmetry is restored for accelerating observers with acceleration larger than the critical value proportional to the pion decay constant. A similar phenomenon happens also in the electroweak phase transition, giving rise to the elementary particle masses. Some comments are added about the possible relevance of our results for heavy ion collisions and the structure of the Black Holes in the region close to the horizon for fiducial observers.
