Einstein-Maxwell Solutions for the Propagation of Test Fields through Specific Realizations of the Plane-Symmetric Kuang-Li-Liang Metric

Abstract

Certain cases of the Kuang-Li-Liang metric serve as a relatively simple yet nontrivial system, with a variety of interesting properties: a plane-symmetric metric, generated by null radiation, with nonzero Ricci and Weyl tensors, and satisfying the appropriate energy conditions, with the freedom to specify a variety of functions for the spatial dependence on the metric in the one varying direction. This class of metric is therefore fairly simple to work with, yet is complicated enough to exhibit interesting physical behaviors. In this research, we study the propagation of (“test particle”) electromagnetic fields through this background spacetime, using various specific realizations of the metric.
