Gyroviscous Magnetorotational Instability with Gyrokinetic Effects

Abstract

In this study, we examine the kinetic version of the Gyroviscous Magnetorotational Instability (GvMRI). Our motivation comes from that this instability may be one of the most efficient sources of angular momentum transport in radiatively inefficient accretion flows onto compact objects. We estimate the growth rates of the instability in collisionless magnetized dilute plasmas using linearized fluid moment equations and the linearized pressure evolution equations keeping the first significant FLR terms and dropping first-order perpendicular heat flux terms. We compare the kinetic growth rates of wave modes with its MHD counterparts. We argue the kinetic behavior of instability.
