Thin Shell Thermodynamics In Anti-de Sitter, And The Black Hole Limit

Abstract

We construct static spherically symmetric thin shells in anti-de Sitter space and make a thermodynamic analysis through the first law of thermodynamics. It is found that the shell's entropy is completely determined by its gravitational radius. Placing the shell at its own gravitational radius and at the Hawking-Page temperature for an asymptotically anti-de Sitter black hole, we recover the area law for the entropy.
