Effective actions for n-pole point particles |

Abstract |
We discuss how a point-particle effective action can be constructed based on irreducible representations of the Poincare group, analogous to elementary particle fields. The action leads to equations of motion which can be of the form of the Matthisson-Papapetrou-Dixon equations, but they can also take on a different structure. We discuss subtleties coming from different supplementary conditions on the spin that can be imposed, on the canonical structure of the variables, and applications to binaries of extreme mass-ratio. |
