Turbulent cascade of self-interacting scalars in asymptotically AdS wormholes

Abstract

Recently a lot of attention has been devoted to the problem of the AdS instability under perturbations with arbitrarily small initial, from the bulk as well as from the boundary perspectives. The energy focusing responsible for the black hole formation is already captured by the study of a self-interacting scalar probe propagating on AdS. Here we show that asymptotically AdS wormholes may also suffer from this focusing. As an example we consider the wormhole solutions of General Relativity with a negative cosmological constant and a quadratic Gauss-Bonnet term in five dimensions. We show that a probe, self-interacting scalar field non-minimally coupled with the scalar curvature may allow for a fully resonant (evenly spaced) spectrum at the linear level. We use the two-time formalism in order to capture the late time behavior of the perturbations and study the energy transfer between modes.
