Solutions Of Gravitational Field Equations For Weakly Birefringent Spacetimes

Abstract

The Constructive Gravity Programme allows to obtain the gravitational action from first principles, once the dynamics for the matter content of the spacetime is specified. We demonstrate how this approach translates modifications to a matter theory directly into new qualities of the corresponding gravitational theory. In particular, we study solutions of the weak-field limit for the gravitational theory that arises, in this fashion, from premetric electrodynamics. The requirement that this theory be a physically sensible extension of linearized Einstein gravity already constrains the 11-dimensional parameter space. Using this restriction we specifically discuss phenomenologically interesting sources of the gravitational field such as inertial point masses or gravitational waves in vacuo. Both cases reveal corrections to Einstein gravity.
