Constraining Inflation from the South Pole: B-Mode Polarization with BICEP/Keck Array

Abstract

Inflationary models generically predict tensor perturbations to the metric, which would create a stochastic gravitational-wave background and imprint B-mode (curl-type) polarization in the cosmic microwave background (CMB). The BICEP/Keck Array experiment located at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station is targeting this signature by mapping ~1% of low-foreground sky at degree angular scales using small-aperture, on-axis refracting telescopes which allow for tight control of instrumental systematics. To disentangle the CMB from Galactic foregrounds, wide frequency coverage is used. I will present our latest constraints on the tensor-to-scalar ratio "r" using data from 2010-2015 at 95, 150, 220 GHz in conjunction with Planck and WMAP. I will also discuss the next-generation "Stage 3" BICEP Array, which will extend frequency coverage from 30-270 GHz and steadily improve sensitivity to r by an order of magnitude over the next few years.
