Three-Form Models Coupled with Gravity: Hamiltonian Formalism and Quantum Cosmology

Abstract

The Hamiltonian formalism and constraint analysis of models given by a three-form field with a generic potential coupled to general relativity in four dimensions will be performed. Although we will keep our discussion completely general (with no imposition of symmetries nor specific potentials), our starting point will be an action that has been extensively used to propose inflationary and dark energy models. Within this general framework, the Hamiltonian for a homogeneous and isotropic cosmological system will be written as a specific example. Once the Hamiltonian is obtained, we will consider a canonical quantization of this cosmological setting with some particular applications.
