Hunting for Transients with the SVOM Mission

Abstract

I will present the Sino-French SVOM mission devoted to the detection and observation of Gamma-Ray Bursts and other multi-messenger/high-energy transient sources. The SVOM satellite will carry four instruments, two wide-field-of-view and two narrow-field-of-view ones. The coded mask telescope ECLAIRs will detect and localize new transient sources in the 4-120 keV energy range, and the GRM spectrometer will observe them in the 20 keV-20 MeV one. The two narrow-field-of-view telescopes MXT and VT, sensitive in the X-rays and in the visible band respectively, will be used for autonomous follow-up after a satellite slew, and as well as for observatory science. The SVOM space segment will be complemented by a series of ground based facilities, including two dedicated follow-up telescopes (GFTs) and a set of wide angle cameras (GWACs). The current SVOM status will be reviewed and its observation strategy will be presented.
