Talk Title

IXPE the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer

Abstract

IXPE the Imaging X-ray Polarimeter will re-open the window of X-ray polarimetry after more than 40 years from the unique positive measurement performed so far in the '70. Thanks to a 'new' generation of imaging detectors, it will be capable to measure polarization from almost all the classes of celestial X-ray source. Imaging polarimetry will allow to make sensitive measurement also in extended sources like supernova remnants, pulsar wind nebulae and molecular clouds orbiting around the galactic center. IXPE will be flown in 2021 and is a NASA SMEX with large participation of Italian institutes at INAF and INFN and the Italian Space Agency.
