Talk Title

Themal Stability and Quasi-stability of Quantum Black Holes

Abstract

Using a general quantum gravity approach with a few inputs from loop quantum gravity, thermal stability criteria are derived for quantum horizons without any reference to a classical metric. General classical charged, rotating black hole metrics are then employed as fiducials to predict their thermal stability, based on our criteria. It is shown that for asymptotically flat black holes, contrary to conventional wisdom, there exist in parameter space very narrow regions where several, though not all, of the criteria are actually satisfied. These regions of `quasi-stability' have not appeared earlier in the literature on semi-classical black hole thermodynamics.
